MacPeople Forming Video Editing Special Interest Group (SIG)

Several members have been interested in forming MacPeople supported Special Interest Groups (SIG) that will meet independently in addition to our monthly MacPeople meeting. SIGs are run by MacPeople members with the full support of the group. One of our members has generously volunteered to form a video editing SIG as part of the MacPeople Club.

No need to bring anything except your interest and wish to give it a try. However, for maximum value, try to bring a laptop with some footage or photos on it that we can share and talk about. If you don’t have a laptop, bring some miniDVs with some footage on them. (We can load them on to one of the Macs here just to demo the software and teach some basics). If you have never tried using a simple movie camera and putting the shots on iMovie, come along and try it for yourself here. This is intended as a hands-on group whose members will help each other. It is assumed that we will all be involved in video editing of our different projects at times other than at meetings.

The iMovie SIG is intended as a hands-on group whose members try to help each other. We follow the book “iMovie- The Missing Manual” so consider getting the edition that matches the version of iMovie that you plan to use. It is assumed that we will all be involved in video editing of our different projects at times other than at meetings. It is a great help -but not essential- if you can bring your project (or a sample of it) on a laptop but if that is not possble, then you can have access to one of the Macs in this office.

Most people buy a video camera, enjoy the fun of taking moving shots of their family and friends but then find that the results are too long. too wobbly and too repetitive to get any one else to look at them as they come out of the camera. The solution is to edit the video into a short attractive story, possibly add some music and effects and, ideally transform the footage into a fun experience for your viewers as well as for you. In other words to edit it on the Mac.

Imovie SIG is here to help you with starting out on that journey.

First please note that currently, we deal only with the IMovie6 editing program (although some members are testing iMovie 8)

The MacPeople IMovie SIG has changed from a regular meeting date to suit the varying time availabilities of members.
Now anyone wanting to meet up and learn about editing on the Mac should simply write to jporiel@ufl.edu and we will fix a time to get together and try to meet their needs and interests.

We are also happy to help beginners.

Call us if you are interested or want to know more.
